Johann Sebastian Bach : St Matthew Passion
ENSEMBLE & ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Presumably written for Good Friday in the year 1727, the Saint Matthew Passion tells the story of Christ's last days as recorded in the First Gospel. Liturgical music, then, but which, redesigned by Bach in a scholarly architecture, becomes a veritable sacred opera, in which the composer does not neglect any of the theatrical means at his disposal to reach his audience. The variety and the suffocating beauty of the arias, the treasures of dramatic intelligence lavished by Bach, the prodigious synthesis of styles and genres into a superior unity and the continuous spiritual uplift that runs through it make this work an overwhelming experience and, literally, , uplifting. With the theatrical sense of Leonardo García Alarcón, the colors of Cappella Mediterranea, the fervor of the Chamber Choir of Namur and a first-rate cast, a concert that promises exceptional moments of grace and flight.
