SINCE 2009. THE FIRST BIG SUCCESS OF CAPPELLA MEDITERRANEA
THE MEETING OF ITALIAN BAROQUE AND ARGENTINE TANGO
AT 350 YEARS OF DISTANCE, TWO COMPOSERS WHO TURNED UP THEIR MUSICAL ERA JOIN BY THE BOLD AND WONDERFUL BAROQUE FANTASY OF LEONARDO GARCÍA ALARCÓN, TO MOVE US LASTING.
Those who would be surprised to see Monteverdi and Piazzolla together probably forget this: with three million descendants of Italians among its inhabitants, Buenos Aires is undoubtedly the largest Italian city in the world - our chef is not called Leonardo by hazard - . A story that began at the end of the 18th century, which saw generations of workers emigrate to Argentina, bringing with them their songs and their particular nostalgia for the lost country. Loves, betrayals, fatalities ... The passions respond to each other and continue through the ages. Like the nascent opera, the tango which saw the light of day at the end of the 19th century took hold of the first emotions.
Cappella Mediterranea has built a concert-show in which the most famous arias of Piazzolla (Milonga del Angel, Michelangelo 70, Chiquilín de Bachín…) mingle with the madrigals of Monteverdi (Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Il Vespro della beata Vergine…). On stage, a musician slides from the harpsichord to the piano, from the viola da gamba to the double bass; a theorbo player gives way to the bandoneonist, while a fabulous soprano leaves the stage in favor of an authentic tango singer.
