Early Unions – Voices of Europe Huelgas Ensemble
This programme shows the wealth of polyphony in the Europe of the Late Middle Ages, including one country where one would not expect native polyphony – Poland. Also, relatively unknown composers (Soriano, Juan Ponce) and Renaissance masterpieces (‘Fremuit spritu Jesus’) are included in the programme. The concert displays the unanimity from the first polyphony (the Winchester Troper) up until the final chromatic ‘laundering’ of a decadent polyphony (Michelangelo Rossi). The programme shows the unexpectedly versatile landscape of an exclusive European art.
