In 1773 Mozart was commissioned for a "heroic drama" from an eccentric baron. In retrospect, the resemblance to the composer's last opera, The Magic Flute is striking: same Egyptian setting, same opposition between light and darkness, same characters (Tamino, The Queen of the Night…). The Piano Concerto No. 20, composed at the same time as Thamos, is also an impetuous masterpiece whose urgency announces the greatness of Don Giovanni. Marie-Ange Nguci, a young pianist with a bright future, performs this major page of the repertoire.
